Final Pitch – My Campaign for Howard County Council, District 3

Final Pitch – My Campaign for Howard County Council, District 3

It’s been nearly a year since I announced my intention to run to be the next District 3 representative to the Howard County Council, a memorable year to say the least. I continue to be humbled by – and grateful for – the tremendous support and encouragement that we’ve received as we’ve traveled across the district and county. As the Primary Election nears, I’d like to offer my closing statement as to why I am asking for your vote to serve on the County Council.

ABOUT ME

I chose to live in Howard County in 2000, attracted by its top-rated school system, quality of life, and commitment to diversity, inclusion and civility. I live in North Laurel with my wife Meg and two kids, both of whom are students in the Howard County Public School System. We’ve developed a deep connection to our community, and I’m committed to doing all I can to make Howard County an even better place to live, work, play and raise a family.

A PASSION FOR SERVICE

I entered this race because I believe that we live in a great community. While our County faces many challenges, I still believe it’s a wonderful place to live, and our future is bright. I’ve dedicated much of my time to serving District 3, Howard County, and the people that live here. It is with that passion for – and commitment to – service that I developed the main theme for our campaign – COMMUNITY FIRST.

With politicians in Washington unwilling – or unable – to get the job done, it’s even more important that we have state and local leaders who will step up to solve the challenges facing our community, fight for our shared values, and work to improve the quality of life for all our residents. I’ve been committed to those goals for nearly a decade, and I would continue that work as a member of the County Council.

A TRACK RECORD OF RESULTS

For over 25 years, I’ve produced results in both the public and private sectors. As an executive for two different companies, I delivered bold, innovative solutions that led to organizational success. For nearly a decade, I have lent my time and energy towards improving how government serves the people of Howard County. My work includes the HCPSS Area Attendance and Policy 6010 Steering Committees, Spending Affordability Advisory Committee, Charter Review Commission, and the Development Regulations Assessment Steering Committee. I currently serve on the Howard County Board of Appeals.

MOVING HOWARD FORWARD

I’ve been successful in the private sector by bringing forward bold, innovative ideas that solve problems and advance organizational missions. As a member of the County Council, I’ll bring that experience to government. I’ll focus on strengthening our schools to ensure equal educational opportunities for all; building strong communities, striking the right balance between growth and sustainability; keeping our streets safe, combating human and drug trafficking, and our growing opioid crisis; and fiscal transparency and responsibility.

THE TIME IS NOW

While there is much I can do, I can’t it alone. As noted in a previous post, we have four candidates running for County Council in District 3 that possess what I feel are the right values, vision and priorities. Because of this, I believe this campaign should come down to which candidate possesses the skills, abilities, and experience to serve District 3 and Howard County in the manner in which it deserves – on day one. Leaders that are uniquely qualified and prepared to lead our County in both meeting our challenges, and seizing the great opportunities that I still believe exist. Candidates who have the track record of bringing people together – those that can vote in the Democratic Primary and those that cannot – to do the big things that will allow us to build upon our amazing past to create a bright future for all in Howard County.

Based on that critical standard, I believe the choice is clear.

I am that candidate.

I hope that you’ll agree, and support our campaign during Early Voting June 14-21, or at the Primary Election on June 26.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for considering supporting me. Let’s work together to build on our County’s amazing past to build towards a bright future.

All the best, Steve
